Who's all got MB heated seats and do you find them reliable, comfortable, waste of time, etc?

I have them in another brand of car and only use them for about 5 minutes each day for about 2 months of the year.

Fabulous device. I love 'em. they warm the whole seat and the backrest right up to your shoulders. I think, if you have leather and you park your car where it will get cold, then you must have them. I have often remembered to put them on as i bounce off the roof as i climb off the seat surface when its -8C. I turn them on and then scrape the ice/snow off the car and when i get in its all cosy. The airscarf adds to the car heat as it warms up in 7 seconds and blows lovely warm air at you. on a crisp, cold evening with the roof off and the heaters toasting your toes, the seat warming your bot/back and the scarf burning your neck, you really appreciate driving topless in the dales looking at stars and stuff. ( I have just realised why I am still single!!! )

if you have cloth seats they dont need the heaters altho they still help if you like a warm bot.

you can use your heated seats on a lower setting most days if you like. helps those with back ache too.

i think the argument about only 2months of the year is the same as the sunroof argument 20years ago and the soft top argument 10years ago. and the constant explaining to non-belivers that you can use your aircon all year round instead of the 2 days of summer (around 4pm and June the 28th next year if you are interested, we booked the Sun last week!). if you turn up the heating it blows warm air in as well as cold in summer. it helps to demist too. i think some people think it just blows cold air. they spend several thousands on cars and then dont play with them to see what it does.

You only use your wipers when it rains dont you? and when was the last time you used all the coat hooks? 4 seats and you travel to work yourself everyday and back! A 4x4 that never goes off road etc etc. A 5.5l and you only do 30mph!

Just my observations, nothing personal to those who disagree.

Yes, heated seats are very nice to have, especially in the UK.

My w126 coupe, 560 SEC, has heated seats front AND rear, PLUS heated armrests, front and rear. Plus it's got the late higher wattage heating elements, which are rated at 90watts, early w126 ones being rated at 65watts. The late heating elements toast you nicely.

It's an absolute joy on any cold day.

You don't still use your wiper do you? I did away with mine ages ago (I had to refit it for the MOT though).

I polished my screen and then back this up with RainX once a fortnight.

Are MB heated seats reliable and do they haver a major effect on fuel consumption?

Can you keep them on for an hour until your backside is toasted or would you keep them on until the car in general is at a comfortable temperature? Do they auto-cut off after a period of time?

here in sweden where the winters are extremely cold, heated seats are essential

unfortunately for me, my current car (merc c220) didnt come with heated seats, so i guess this winter will be tough,

i wonder is it possible to retrofit the elements or something ?/

cheers

some have 2 heater settings, some models have 3 and some have a dial temp thing. so you can adjust the level of botty warmth. they are not as draining on your leccy system as your rear window element.

you will have to search the forum for reliabilty levels. i have never had trouble with my 3 Mercs heated seats, nor the Subaru or the Grand Cheerokee and I would insist on them with leather. Cloth is your choice, but i would have them.

I've been using heated seats for the last 8 years - they make early morning starts on cold winter days (on cold leathe seats) much more bearable. They get heat into you in the 5-10 minute period before the heater has started blowing hot air.

Heated seats are good,,,just start the car on a cold morning and have a coffee,,when you finish your coffee the car is warm and the seats are lovely to sit on,,,ps it makes it better if you have a remote start,,you dont have to leave the house.....

Heated seats give the uncomfortable feeling that you've either (a) just peed yourself or (b) sat in a chair into which someone else has just farted!

I'm afraid I don't like 'em!

hmmm, how do you turn the heated seats on from the remote start?

you need to get someone else to go out and press the button whilst you drink your coffee :)

Personally I like heated seats a lot.

EVEN BETTER are the heated AND air conditioned seats in S-Classes. I spent a vey pleasant week at a conference in Berlin being whisked about in one of a fleet of black S's. In the case of the a/c seats you could step out of 95 degree heat and immediately chill as the seats took all the heat out of your back and legs.
