Heater control lights - blown fuse?

Hey all,

Last night when fiddling with replacing the bulbs in the heater controls on a W124 (250D '89) I think I touched a short and blew a fuse - well a spark did jump :) ... All control lights stopped working after this.

I could not find any relevant fuse in the main fuse box. Searching through the forums here, I've seen mentioned a red fuse behind the instrument panel. Before I go dismantling everything, can someone confirm that this is the fuse for the heating control lights?

Also, on a side note, anyone know if the vents on the W124 have light bulbs in them too? What about the window switches, are they supposed to be illuminated?

Thanks,

m.

control light loss

Hi mdjukic,
I had the same problem on my w124 230. Lost all control illumination due to the red fuse situated at the rear of the instrument panel being blown.
I was looking for a normal type fuse, but it was printed type fuse on a small bakelite type board.
I managed to repair the damage with a little careful soldering., although it would be better to replace with a new unit if possible.
All vents, window switches, heating controls should be lit.

The vents do have light bulbs in them, the same as the heater control switches. I did mine some time ago. They are very specialised bulbs I think, but 2-3 years ago they were 42p from MB. Amazing!
