Heater control Panel

My 1995 C180 when the ignition is turned on the lights for the Blower switch , Directional switch and the thumb wheels for heat control all flash. When the lights are turned on instead of illuminating the panel they go out.
At one stage they worked correctly then intermittent and now just one half of the panel flashes. HELP.
