Hi All,

I have the EC light coming on constantly on my W203 C220 Auto Coupe 2001 reg. what I have noticed is that the heater does not get hot as it should do, yesterday the car was started and idling for around 30 minutes, played around with all the switches, still not hot.

One thing though, when I am driving and the engine is warm, the mirror heaters and rear windscreen heaters all seem to clear mist on the screen, but the inside of the car doesn’t get hot as I expected it, I have owned an E46 in the past with climate control and I know how hot it can get once the car gets going.

I have searched through the forum an EC lights could mean 2 things:

AC needs regassing
Temperature sensor needs replacing.

I also stumbled onto the post in the link below
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=28561&highlight=203+set

would this apply to my vehicle as well ?

Thanks

I would say the re-gas is your most likley fault, but that usually means a leak, but can only be found with dye injected on a re-gas.
A diagnostic will confirm this.

The 4, 5, and straight 6 cylinder cdi engines are not very thermally effeicent, which means it is very hard to reach full temp at idle alone, they are all like this. Its not a problem.

some are fitted with a heater boaster in the engine block, which is like a kettle element which helps warm up, but not essential.

just one more thng to mention, heat does come out from around the brake area by my legs, also the windows are being demisted as well, its just the general air vents in the actual car which does not blow out hot air only warm air when on auto setting and cold air otherwise.

Hi Television/Malcom,

I didnt quite understand where it says

"Press recirculated air and defrost buttons on control panel together for longer than 5 seconds."

recirculated air is the button which has like an arrow pointing towards the middle of the car or so, will this procedure also get the heater working as it should do again?

Thanks

Hi All,

I tried the reset operation on the link above, the lights still kept flashing even after the reset operation and it would not go off.

Also, the blowers on the for right and left hand side of the car does get hot, but its the vents by the middle of the car on top of the radio etc and also the ones at the rear as well, they dont blow hot air out. just cold/warm air.

Heater works by the foot vents as well. Anyone know what the problem could be ?

Sorted

Ok Guys

Just to give an update, I managed to connect carsoft onto the car to do some diagnostics and I saw a lot of errors relating to an open circuit/electrical problem in the car.

Some of the errors I did clear and to my suprise, the heater has started working now.
