Hi I finally got round to finishing that Heater plug extraction tool

I had difficulties pulling the heater plugs out after I had unscrewed them

So I made this tool its a split collet arrangement that shrouds the plug then the tube is slid over the collet (this tube will stop the collet from expanding during the extraction proses)
Then the extractor slides into the tube and screws on to the split collet so when you turn the nut down on to the end of the tube the plug is pulled out (see pictures below also two in the next reply)

How long did it take you to make that then ?
Hi delboy777 its hard to figure out I did the split collet about 12 mths ago
I reckon that would be around 2.5 hrs including some tooling
The tube & extractor about another 2.5 hrs its all stainless steel apart from the nut which was 3/4 X 16 UNF now its 20 mm X 16 tpi. it helps having one of the best lathes ever made (Hardinge HLV-H)

Hi never did use this tool in anger till today when I had to plull the heater plugs on my ML 270. of course you need to unscrew the plug then as you all know by now that mostly they wont just pull out this tool will extract the plug with out having to use vice grips etc. I've took some pic's
