I've had my 300CE-24 for several months now and love the car, but can't seem to get used to the floor pivoted accelerator. It has a really long travel and is quite heavy. To accelerate hard, or kick down I find I really have to strectch, and is quite tiring on the leg/ankle. Is there anyway I can 1. reduce the amount of accelerator travel 2. make it lighter? Or maybe its just me; I'm used to small, light accelerator pedals.

Thanks

or wear stilettos? probably turned round with the heel by your toes as it's floor mounted.

or buy a large number of pedal covers, cutting the bottom off each and then sticking over the previous one, or a bearing at the pivot point that would benefit from same?

sorry for not being more constructive. Is there a hole that a shaft goes through that could do with some WD40?

Traditionally Merc throttles were heavier than 'normal' cars. Not sure why but I do remember the salesman mentioning it when I test drove the C.
I didn't really notice as I've been driving mercs forever (my first driving memory is sitting on my dad's knee in his W123!) but you get out of a 123/124/190 etc and throttles on other stuff do seem flimsy. You'll get used to it. I just rest the ball of my foot on the top half of the pedal - that way its no different to the top hinged ones. Later electronic throttles - W210 etc are much lighter, though still not to ford levels.

In fairness i have to agree with the above post. mine has a long pedal travel and is quite firm but i dont find this a problem. i aslo dont find it makes my legs ache as it is well positioned. the fords i used to have made my feet ache as they were high up and i only have tiny trotters to prod it with.

however i do find that moving my seat one stop closer to the pedals helps. This maybe to do with my car being low slung and you sit quite low but it helps me anyways.

so try a closer seating position

I am surprised that nobody has suggested lubricating the cable/throttle linkage, to make it lighter. And you could always change the spring on the throttle body for a lighter one.

It has more travel, because it has more performance, than other cars. So, you press it the same amount as a normal car and it offers the same performance. But you can keep pressing it further and further, if you like.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm also glad that I have provided some entertainment!

The seat is already quite close, in fact I'm sitting closer to the steering wheel than I do in other cars.

Will try to lubricate/service the cable and throttle assy.

Have you tried lubricating the cable/throttle linkage?

It's worth changing the throttle cable and routing this correctly if it's an old cable/car.

I had the same problem with my 320CE and changed the cable, it was a lot better but not as good as I would expect. I still rip up the gravel when I'm trying to reverse.

Throttle cable

Don't bother with lubricant. Just buy a new throttle cable (about £15 from a dealership) and swop it out. They all seem to get stiff & sticky with use

not all merc owners are old and stuffy. Some of us know how to smile and have a laugh! still, let us know how you go on. your experinces will help others if you do.
