Hello all, Just got a C220 Avantgarde SE for free

An old friend just gave me his C220 as the MOT expired, I'm expecting to have to replace the rear subframe as it's a failure.

After seeing a lot of chat on here about subframes I hope someone will be able to answer this question.

Is my car a W203? Is there any difference in subframes W203 - W204 - W205 etc.

Too many W's in this brand and I don't know what I've been given.

First 3 numbers of your Vin is the chassis “W” number

Easy when you know how, so I have a W203, all I need now is a knowledgeable person who knows the subframes, are they interchangeable as I've seen
a really good looking W205 subframe on flebay.

I doubt they would be, you could always approach Mercedes for a new one… some existing owners have been lucky
Only issue you have is that your a new owner and Mercedes won’t give you “betterment” - as you bought it knackered. Still ”shy bairns’s get nae sweets”

Looks to have been pretty well looked after that, once the subframe is done, headlights polished up and a general clean up that got to be a very good car for free

I hope it works out as he gave it to me cos he didn't want it to be scrapped so I'll do my best.

I've reached out for a good subframe through breakeryard.com

The plan is once I've dropped the subframe to rebuild with new arms and springs, it also failed on brakes pipes at the rear so I'll renew those while the subframe is down.

I'll try to take pics as I go and report on progress here...

Perhaps this thread should be split as it's in Introduce yourself and a detailed rear rebuild might be better suited to another place.

should be easy sourcing a decent frame from a breakers for it , not uncommon to see a w203 in a yard

7ZAP REAR AXLE > REAR SUBFRAME gives me all the little parts that fit onto the subframe but not the part number for the subframe itself, or am I in the wrong section.
