I wondered if anyone could advise me with regards to selling.
I have a 2005 SLK 200 1.8 Auto with only 34600 miles.
Unfortunately, the roof does not fully open (only halfway) & it does have a few scratches etc.
I want to sell, however, I am very nervous about doing so privately ( being female)
Any advice on the safest way to go around this would be very welcome.
It is very rarely used (hence low mileage) so it's about time it moved on.

Welcome and good luck with the sale :) Have you got a valuation from webuyanycar.com?

If this is the only car you have, then go for an exchange at a car dealer.

^^^ Agree with that, you will get a seamless swap from one car into another that way. :)

Don't for Christ's sake take any notice of Webuyanycar's quotation, they will give you a totally wrong impression of whatyour car is worth on the open market. They are a company owned by British Car Auctions. They will want to buy the car from you and make a profit under the hammer at Auction to the trade, their sole aim is to make a profit out of the vulnerable. :(

I really would get the roof sorted - a local MB independent garage should be able to sort this out for you, and it may not be expensive. Checking that the roof works will be the first thing potential buyers will look at, and it will be difficult to sell at a reasonable price to an average buyer, if it doesn't work correctly.
You could advertise it on one of the MB forums and perhaps have someone with you when potential buyers look at the car. Also I'd be tempted to try some scratch remover to attack the scratches. The better you can make the car look, the better the chance of selling quickly. Now is a good time to sell a convertible.

Thank you for replies, I really appreciate it!
I really would like to sell as is, but understand it will take the right buyer ( with roof issue)

The last car I sold, only a month ago, was to Motorway

A painless process, all done online, over a grand more than We Buy Any Car offered and without the hassle. My only concern would be that, as Motorway is a dealer only site, you may get a limited response with your car having the faults which you've mentioned. All I would suggest is give them a try on the link I've posted (no obligation) and be as honest as you can in the description. They ask for several photos if you decide to go with them but specify exactly what they need, even offering a template for some.

I'd much sooner use someone like them as opposed to attracting the usual eBay/Gumtree chancers if you sell privately, mine was gone in under a week from start to finish and I was paid in full before the car left.

Alternatively, if you do want another car then, as mentioned above, p/x would be the way to go as the dealer can then see what they're buying before committing, though be prepared for a big knock with the roof not working.

Incidentally, other firms offer a similar service to the "we buy any car" type thing (Evans Halshaw springs to mind round here), though Motorway were the best that I personally found.
