Hello my fellow Merc addicts! My name is Rick James (no joke) but that’s as close as I come to being anyone remotely famous. Unfortunately I not a singer songwriter from the US, far from in fact as I’m just a simple guy who lives in a small village amongst the many acres of greenery that is the UK.

After my 21 years of driving a mix of several different cars of all shapes and sizes that was made from manufacturers from around the globe, the one car that not only gave me some of my best memories of driving but is also easily in my top five favourite cars I’ve owned (I’ve owned over 200 cars, so that’s a compliment)! Which was my old CLK430 V8, it’s been 10 or more years since I had that and I still miss it now. And as much as I’d love to go out and get another just to try and relive the memories of when I was in my prime.

I’m 99.9% sure that you would all agree with me on 2 things….. the first being that it would be more depressing than anything else as it would just be a constant reminder that I’m now a middle aged fart that’s having a midlife crisis (meltdown) and secondly is that particular Mercedes model was not built in an era that Mercedes is best remembered for when it comes to the dreaded cancer killer to any vehicle otherwise known as RUST!

So after parting with my most recent car which I sold back in November last year, I decided that rather than me just rush out to the nearest used car dealer and buy something from impulse just for the sake of it. Instead for the first time ever, I sat myself down and made a list of everything that I wanted from a car, which included size, colour, reliability, performance, exterior and interior spec and so on.

You can work out for yourself how serious I took this as it’s taken me just shy of 3 months to actually go out and buy it! And that’s not because I was spoilt for choice as coming to the conclusion of the car I was going to buy but the longest bit was finding one that was “THE ONE” it had to have everything I wanted and I didn’t intend on settling for anything less.

So ladies and gents, I am extremely proud to present to you all my latest family member who (for me) is just absolutely stunning in every way possible!

Without a doubt my choice of manufacturer had to be a Mercedes but deciding on the model is what I found most difficult. But from endless hours of research and reading more reviews than anything else I’ve read in my life I had made my decision on that and then the remainder of the headache went on.

However I won’t continue to ramble on any longer as I’m sure your just thinking hurry up and get to the end and share with us all what you’ve gone and bought yourself and if your not then that’s because I bored you to death several paragraphs back ‍♂️

So low and behold here is my 2006 CLS 320cdi fully equipped with a great spec, low mileage, 2 previous owners and full MB service history. I hope that you all approve! I’d love to hear your feedback on her and I look forward to many years of making great new memories in it as well as making new friends from this forum!

Thanks again and sorry for my rambling, stay safe Rick J

Hello and welcome,

Did 100k miles in a V6 E320CDI - great package - a few “features” that are well documented here but nothing that’s not fixable.

Thank you to all for a warm welcome as well as your kind comments on my CLS! I’ve have a few plans for it just to bring it up to date and make it a little more interesting. But I’m going to have to wait a while until I can start doing anything just yet due to low funding however as they say, all good things come to those who wait I’ll start a new thread in the relevant category as and when I do eventually get started! I’m looking forward to reading up on all the information and ideas that you guys have shared and I’m also definitely going to take Ruth up on her offer regarding becoming a fully paid group member I’m also hoping to attend as many club meetings as I can where I will be able to put a few faces to names So Choi for now and keep safe everyone

Hi Rick. Welcome to the forum and I hope you have many years enjoying your CLS. As @AMGeed has said please do join us at Beaulieu in August if you are free.
Welcome to the forum Rick.
Get yourself down to Beaulieu on 20th Aug for a forum meet up. It's a great day out.

Hey chaps, I will definitely do my best to attend Beauieu along with my CLS and I appreciate the invitation! I can’t see any reason why I can’t as of now so you can add me to list of those who are attending. However if I do go, I will sadly be riding solo so if anyone else from the Essex/Hertfordshire area who is going and fancies doing a convoy then let me know as id be up for tagging along if you’d have me

I will be coming down the M1 from north Bedfordshire. Happy to meet up on the way but it will be the Saturday. Looking to do the same as last year where some of us meet up and stayed at the same hotel.

Hey mate, Yea I’ll be up for that! I’ve not looked into the details of the event as of yet so I didn’t know it was a 2 dayer! If you can let me know what the details are and your plan for it then I will see if I can join in with the the fun. Cheers

It’s only one day (Sunday) but some prefer to drive down the day before and stay somewhere overnight on the Saturday. I'm only about 30 minutes away it’s local for me,

Ah ok mate, thanks for clearing that up as I was starting to get overexcited thinking I was in for a fun little weekend out but even still a night away followed by a day surrounded by beautiful Benzo’s is something to look forward to

Another thing I thought I’d mention, if anyone was interested to know…. The colour of my CLS is called green black metallic aka Smaragdsschwarz.

I’ve never heard nor seen it before, well at least I don’t think so. But I do know that I’ve definitely not seen a CLS in this colour for sure. But either way, I love it and the pictures don’t do it justice!

Sorry to keep ranting on about my car people, but I love it peace out, much love

Was it a standard colour do you know or was it an optional extra? like I said, I’ve not seen it before that I can remember ‍♂️
Once he sees my “tag” he’ll no doubt comment, it wasn’t a particularly popular colour (very few green colours are:() and it looks different in different light (as I’m sure you’ve noticed). I had a Kallaite green E-Class and loved the colour.
