Hi,

I have just bought/rescued a Mercedes and thought I would join a forum so here I am.

I have been looking for a new car for a while now but couldn't find anything I really liked. It needed to be auto as I am getting lazy and something interesting. So there I was at a car dealer and there was this sad old 200E looking back at me. It was just at the stage where moss was starting to grow. Anyway she was an auto and although she didn't have air con and other bits I really wanted I just had to rescue her. Anyway she is in really good condition with a FSH and after a bit of a bit of a tidy she is looking good again. Hopefully I can find answers and help to any problems that might come along.

Andrew.

Welcome to the forum, Andrew. I'm sure you'll find most of the answers you're after on here somewhere, but if not, then feel free to start a new thread and ask away!!

And congratulations on rescuing an old 'un!!

Hi Andrew,

And welcome. Congratulations on your choice. The "extras" are nice to have but the fundamental issue is all the things which are engineered into the car and work for you all the time, without bells or whistles or buttons to push.

I think it is these inherent qualities in MB which explain the perpetual satisfaction, smile and probably insufferable smugness of many of the owners. I am sure there are lots of rich people who buy them "because they can", but the people who understand them really enjoy them for what they are. :):D

My E 220Cdi just clocked up 170,000 miles on Thursday, and I can't tell any difference in quality of ride or performance. They realy are fantastic cars to own.

Here are some pictures after the first scrub. I didn't take any when I first picked her up. She is a 1991 200E automatic in naucital blue with creme beige cloth. Only 110,000 on the clock with all the books and most of the service history. She has had a few repairs and needs a good cut and polish, there is a bit of rust on the front wings and around the aerial and needs a good clean inside. I am trying to get hold of a bonnet star, a drivers side window regulator and a few other bits to tidy her as well as the list of ebay parts awating delivery.

Looks an excellent prospect. The mileage is presumably verified by the history, so no problems there - annual average is only 6,500 miles which is trivial.

Looks as though getting it in the garage might be a neat fit?

Well done you! :);)

Looks very good, well done on the purchase and for rescuing a great car. Much better for the environment than buying a brand new car, surely.

Agreed, makes me smile when I see new car ads where the thrust is, do your bit for the environment...... make your footprint smaller.......get rid of your current wheels.....buy a (small) new car, never mind the footprint of carbon to build it:confused:
Its all marketing
