2005 SLK 200 Kompressor Auto
Thank you for letting me into this forum. My wife has a 2005 SLK 200 Auto which she loves and sometimes does 400 miles between MOTs!! The car drives well but does have small issues from time to time which I would like to fix myself. I served an Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeship with the RAF and own a reasonably well-equipped workshop but have to admit that I do lack modern engineering (electronic principles, CNC, etc) knowledge. In the past, I have owned a CLK 320 convertible and an ML350 SUV. Both great cars. My regular ride now is a 2012 Lexus RX450 Hybrid which I have had for 7 years.

The car has always been garaged and has done 66,000 miles. It had to have a new front end due to a very low-speed collision with the garage door, about 2 years ago. The rest of the paint is original and in good condition. There are small stone chips on the front and when these become unacceptable I will have them painted.

Don't know the paint number, the Reg Doc says red but I would call it Maroon, the inside is white.

I live in Suffolk UK, but I spend the winter in Florida hence the LHD and Flora. I no longer own the ML, I replaced it with a Volvo XC90.

Hello and welcome. Must soon be time to change the Lexus for another three pointed star! ;)

The questions about the red relate to the well know quality issues with Fire Opal Red, code 590, where Mercedes often have to do a full respray because of original paint issues.

Or "Mars Red" in the colonies ;)

Thank you for the welcome, and the tongue in cheek Lexus comment. I have owned a few Lexus RXs and all of them have been trouble-free and certainly, the comfort level has been superior to the ML I owned, given that it was a US-produced car, the seats were very hard. I have looked at the GLC but it is too big for my wife to drive and I want a classic car for my own use (or an MB E220 convertible). Life is very complicated at the moment and at 75 years old with health complications maybe I should concentrate on other things, but hey I have always been a petrol head so why would I change??

75 and health issues... get a V8 or V12 in AMG guise and enjoy :D

We're here for a "good time", not a "long time"... ;)

I have been eyeing up that listing for a while. Colour needs to be something else IMO. Interior is great though!
I think it's a colour that will look much better in the metal
