Hello Guys. My name is Matthew. My little brother aged 15  is a mercedes fan. He really wants to buy a little Mercedes, not including the A-class or the smart, there to expensive. I'm gussing that the smallest saloon is the 190E (sorry I don't really know my Mercedes). What body kits are there for it, and whats the cheapest for him to insure?. Thankyou for you help and time. Hi Matt, I'm new to this forum too! I'd try and persuade your brother to go for a BMW...bit more of a young guy's car than a Merc.

I maybe wrong but I doubt they do bodykits for the 190 - it's quite an old model now. But hopefully someone here may be able to think of something?

Hi Mattsbeamer.

The 190E isnt the smallest saloon, as its size and engines are comparable with the later C Class, although being the oldest and the cheapest to buy nowadays, i would go for one for sure. Ive had my 2.0 litre 190 for a while now, and to be honest although the bodywork isnt 100% they are a ****** nice car. Excellent build quality and mechanics. They are also simple to work on (essential on a first car!) as the 190 seems to be the last of the "Traditional not ruled by electrics" style of car

Definatly go for a later model with the bigger bumpers as they look a lot better than the earlier models like mine. I believe the dash layout is slightly better as well. Engines available are 1.8 up to a 2.6. There are a couple of Diesels thrown in for good measure as well.

cheers

ps, they also do injected and non injected ones. The injected ones are denoted by the "E". short for the German word Einspritz....which loosly translated means Injection. However i dont think there is really much difference in performance between the E and non E versions, as its only the old fashioned Bosch K Jetronic mechanical fuel injection installed. None of this new fangled Multi-point EFI business lol!!!

cheers

To matt. Thankyou VERY much for you reply. It would probably have to be the 1.8, due to the insureance reasons. I can't believe that the insurance group for the 1.8 is 13. My 85 BMW 318i Auto 4-door saloon is insureance group is 14.

Thats good. Im only 18. If i deciede to run my Mk3 Fiesta it will cost £1000 to insure her. Or my 85 318i will cost about £1750 (thats including pass plus discount).

ODD I chose the 2.0 because my insurance company (Norwich union) had the 1.8 and 2.0 in the same insurance group
.....
There are still plenty of Kits / spoilers / tuning goodies available for the 190....
I still think the 190 looks smarter than a bimmer..

The 190 is a classic. It looks better than most modern Mercedes. All the modern ones are beginning to look the same - they just come in different sizes and with a varying number of seats. The CLK used to look a bit different, but the new one is like a C-class without the B pillars.

By the way, if you're stuffing a body kit on the car check with the insurance first. They take any opportunity to load the premium.

Thanks for the advise Tony. My little bro should like his future Merc then, going by what you say. :)

Your Merc sounds nice, but the only problem is he wants a black one with black or cream leather seats. Have you any pictures of her.:)

i think your car sounds lovely, and owuld love to have one. Its not my brothers colour. Have you any pic, or look alike photos. I ll ask my friends, and see if they would be intrested. Its ashame that the insureance wasn't cheaper on her, because it would look impressive, having a BMW,your Merc at my age.
