In that case Pure Detail, what is the best way of handwashing the car to avoid swirls in the laquer? I have found that even jetwashing prior and using a very soapy sponge some dirt still remains.

Tricks of the trade please...

Many thanks

Bet it involves a clay bar :)........don't think he's near us, but you never know, you may end up as a guinea pig (oops sorry....show car :) )

Incidentally Jonathan, if you are up in the wet end of the UK, I'd love you to just give mine a dose of looking at ;)

thanks shooter,

as for washing..

never use a sponge they drag any dirt that's under it, over the paint. Best way is to power wash over with water (taking any lose dirt off), then if possible power wash over with shampoo so the suds are all over, then use a lamb wool wash mitt.
This takes dirt away from the surface up into the mitt. every time you dip it into the bucket, take your time to squeeze it a couple of times to get anything out.

By all means, quite happy to have a look at your cars :D
i will drop you a pm tomorrow.

by the way the car in question is like this...
(any info would be great)

Thanks Jonathan

My car will be in the bodyshop for a bit due to an accident Saturday night. Incidentally would you have a bodyshop to recommend in this area? I have used Manchester Car Refurbishment for minor work and they were OK.

Incidentally I have spent a number of hours today reading up on car care and have placed an order with Autopia for a Porter Cable Polisher and a number of pads and polishes. I really want to look after my merc well. The paint looks fine with just some minor marring swirls (probably caused by me). I also read that the 2 bucket system is good with the lamswool mitt (one bucket with soap one to rinse) would you consider this as an option instead of power washing with shampoo?

What do you reckon about the Porter Cable generally and Autopia's range of polishes/waxes?

Thanks

yes that is a good option if not power washing.

As to the porter cable, when you receive it, you will wonder why you haven't bought one before :D did you buy the 7424?

If you would like some lessons on how to use it i also do that as well.
Can you drop me an email as i can't contact you.

the skyline sounds like a beast. don't suppose you know if he goes to the mascrat manor jap meet? Have a couple of friends that have 600bhp+ supras' that go. If he doesn't tell him to pop down, good atmosphere apparently.
