HI all,

My Father's 1989 G reg 190E has developed a problem with the central locking system. Using the key will only lock & unlock the drivers door. The same problem when you try the passenger door. There is also a fault with the toad alarm system which used to operate the central locking using a remote fob. Before the the alarm fault you could still operate all doors and boot using the key in the driver's door lock. Any ideas as to what is wrong, I've quicky checked fuses etc and everything looked fine.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I Have a toad alarm fitted in my 190 and it is connected to the vacuum pump that operates the central locking by means of cutting one of the wires going to the vacuum pump with two wires coming from the toad alarm one going to one end of the cut wire the other to the other end of the cut wire. Check and see if the central locking works from the boot lock if not check that the vacuum pump is working there is a blue, green and yellow wires which operates the central locking one plug and anther plug with two wires which is the power, check and see if there is power going to the pump.
Also check the fuses. The vacuum pump is located under the rear seat at the driver?s side.

Thanks for the quick reply 190. I'll need to get the car and check over the connections. I've got a funny feeling either the vaccum pump has packed in or there is a leak in the system. I'll get the car off my Dad at the weekend and check it out better then. Thanks again for the quick reply.

So are you saying there's a fault with the aftermarket alarm?

If that is the case, the alarm is most likely causing the central locking not to work (or has damaged it?), as it is unlikely that the alarm and central locking will both stop working at once.
