Help! 300TE changes out of 4th into 3rd for no reason!

can anybody help with a simple fix?
my 300 TE 4 matic changes out of 4th into 3rd at motorway speeds after and hour or so of continuous running you can drive all day in an urban environment and it doesn't play up
the car has done 150 000 but the box was overhauled at some stage before i bought the car ( service sticker on side of gearbox)
any ideas?

Sounds like the clutch packs to me. Which will require the box to be stripped again. Outside chance of being a valve chest. But I doubt it. Sounds like whoever overhauled the box did not do a good job. Or did not do it at all!!!

thanks Andy, i,ve just changed the oil and filter and it appears to have stopped doing it, however Im not convinced that his is a long term fix I,m sure you are right and the bands are worn
