Owners manual
Hi paul999
By 'owners manual' do you mean the ring-bound folder that accompamies all Mercedes cars OR do you mean the workshop/service manual, e.g Haynes, Autodata, etc?
If you mean the former then I agree with Bazza, how do you lose the owners manual? The previous owner must still have it because the service records are usually kept in it. I believe M-B recommends keeping the owners manual in the car. I purchased a 2000 (W) C230 Kompressor Sport saloon and I found my owners manual in the arm rest cubby hole. Are you certain it isn't in the car? A M-B dealership might be able to supply a copy but it will probably cost you. eBay is worth a look but they don't often come up for sale. You may be lucky though.
If you meant the latter then you will find that not all M-B cars have manuals which I prefer to call workshop/service manuals. You can find these manuals in all good motor factors, if they exist. Amazon sell them too. eBay is also an option and they may be cheaper.
If your workshop/service manual does exist in paper form, eBay is a good source for electronic manuals which are readily available on CD for around GBP5.00 to 15.00. You'll need a computer though.
If memory serves me, the C180 manual is available as a proper paper document.

If you cannot obtain a copy via eBay and you cannot obtain one from an M-B club like this one, your best bet is to approach M-B directly. I would be surprised if they couldn't provide you with the inserts. Are you looking for the ring binder too?
