Hi all, urgent help needed. 2012 CLS350 CDI lost power today for no obvious reason. Driving along at 30mph (70 miles in to a journey), speed limit increased and so go to accelerate and nothing. No lockdown, seems like no boost.

no warning lights or messages are on. I’ve switched off/on again and no change, no power. No funny noises either, absolutely nothing to suggest a fault just no power.

car will pull away ok but is short shifting, around 1500rpm. I can get to motorway speeds eventually and maintain speed but loses speed on slightest of inclines.

I’m away from home with the family now so urgently need help, is there anything I can do to reset what seems to be limp mode?

Is there anyone knows a trusted mobile mechanic in Penrith / Carlisle area?

Is that an OM642. sounds like the good old actuator. Check also the seals to/from the turbo.

The car is in limp mode , there will be stored fault codes , do you have AA or breakdown cover or the like

Update, engine light is now on

I’ve got green flag but doubtful to what they can fix, is it worth calling them or just taking car in to Mercedes Carlisle tomorrow morning?

I’m hoping it’s a bad sensor... is the actuator issue a new turbo job? God I hope not

It will be if you let mb do the job.

My CLS went into LHM three times before the EML came on , turned out it was a sensor on the exhaust but until you get the codes read then it is a guessing game i am afraid.

The Green Flag tech could probably identify the suspect sensor, if it is the cause, but extremely doubtful that he will have one to replace it with.

Looks like the dealer / indy will be your best bet for quickness and part availability , all-be-it at a price.

I rang Mercedes via the app and they suggested it may be a nox sensor since here’s hoping. I’ll take it in first thing tomorrow and hope for the best

This depends on the problem to be honest. Is its a really technical job carlisle would be the best, if its purely a parts change job m and m would be best and quicker.

if it is the actuator MB will replace the entire turbo as they don’t sell it seperately.

The actuators are by Hella Gerrit and the Gear worm wears down inside.

They can be replaced if you are handy - a 2 hour job. But fiddly.

make sure you get the right part.

done one on my om 642 last week.

Anyway all my bla bla aside until you get the codes read.

Codes read (thank you dean!)

looks like a MAF sensor, would you agree?
