On our way home from some New Year festivities my comand sat nav decided to go loopy.

It started when we went onto the new bit of road on the A120, as normal it thought I was going off road and told me the direction to go in.

BUT when we got back to the "old" road, that the sat nav had recognized on our way up, it still thought we were "off road".

Every so often it finds a road (nowhere near where I am at the time) and tries to give me directions, but soon gives up as we go "off road" again.
It's currently sat on the drive in Cardiff, but the sat nav thinks I'm between dover & calais, in the middle of the english channel!!

I've tried taking out the sat nav disk but that hasn't worked.
Has anyone any suggestions?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy and welcome to the MB forum.

Do you have any satellites showing in the corner of the display

As Malcolm, the sat nav antenna has gone down and the car does not know where you are!

Its the black antenna on top of the rear window.

Hi Andy and welcome,

I'm sure the advice that's been given will help remedy your GPS type problem.
This is what happened when the owner of this car followed the wrong advice from her satnav!:eek::eek:

Ooo-eerr! Hope you sort it out.

You're right Malc,

I expect the carpets were a bit soggy.

Its like the foot ball guy Rinaldo more money than sense, that stupid young female was going to see a friend, and we have to pick up the bill as our insurance cost rise

How do I fix this?

Is it a job for Mercedes? :(

Thanks for all your help :D

A150 manual, smart forTwo, W205 AMG line premium plus.
All you need to do is to try a new antenna. It fixes to the NAV drive in the boot on the W211 E class.

I suspect the existing antenna is faulty and replacement is cheap and easy.

As Alfie, the antenna is about £80 if i remember. Its stuck on the top of the car and has two leads punning down either side of the window under the seal, and go into the car through grommets in the lower corners. Then to a connection just inside the boot on the sides. You will see when you get the new one.

Thanks every-one for there replies.
I was hoping it was just a software problem and I could do as reset, but it doesn't look that way from what everyone has been saying.
I'll take a look this weekend, but i suspect I will resort to getting fleeced by Mercedes as I'm not confident enough to start replacing the antenna. (I'm not that confident to look behind the side panel to check that the lead hasn't become disconnected!!)

Cheers,

Andy

Malcolm thanks for your help.

Yes I'd love to have a look at your "How to", just to see if I think I can do it.

I've also been given a name of an ex-mercedes guy who will have a look for a fraction of the price that the dealership will charge me( and that probably before they even do anything!!)

Thanks for the reply Malcolm
there seems to be a bit of confusion over the forums as to what functions
this antenna controls ie, gps, gps/teleaid, gps/teleaid/phone teleaid or phone or gps only etc. Been trawling all day but cant seem to get a definitive answer.
Have read that placement could be under dash, or above instrument housing but is that not dependant
on comand version?

Mine is indeed on the rear glass, (didn`t even know I had heat insulated glass !) After more digging, it appears mine runs both the phone and the gps side of the comand. 3 wires, 2 down drivers c pillar for phone and gps, and 1 down passenger side for gps. part no. A2118203575, not too bad at £79 from
Inchcape. Use epc with chassis number as there are at least 20 versions of this.
Thanks again Malcolm for pointing the way.

Sorry that I did not make that clearer,in that it has a dual purpose when on the rear
