Just brought a '95 C200 and thoughts what a great car. Everything was fine untill one morning I went to start the car and she started but sounded a little lumpy. Thought it might be just the damp and pulled off. Well tried to pull off, I had hadly any power and only slowly reached about 25/30mph. I turned around and parked the car up. had a look and found that only 2 & 3 where firing. So I changed the ignition coil to 1 & 4. Started her up and..... exactly the same thing happened, 1 & 4 not working. Took out spark plugs changed them again nothing. Noticed that the bottom of the plug was not wet thus assuming no pterol was reaching them also found no spark on the plug when the engine was turning over. After reading other posts it could be the MAF which I will clean but does anybody out there have any other ideas???? Just hoping its not the ECU. Also if it is can I buy an ECU from a 'donor vehicle'? and will it work? Also read about switching the battery off for at least 10 mins????? Will this help?

Your advices please???

This does sound like the ECU and a donor from the same model would not need to be programmed.

I do not think that this could be the MAF but you can unplug it to try the car.. Could be a wiring loon problem but I doubt it.

Welcome to the forum and sorry that you come with bad news

While changing the spark plugs, I didn't push one of the lead back far enough and one of the cylinder didn't fire and can smell unburnt petrol from the exhaust. Check the leads.

Avoid prolong switching on the engine with unburnt petrol. This will damage the catalyst.

Just hoping I dont have to buy an ECU - been quoted £400 so far!!!! Cheaper than a Merc dealership I know but I only only paid £650 for the car and she's perfect in eveything else!!!

Why not find an indie with a simple tester that will give you the real fault read out.
