Looking to buy an SL 1991-1995. Lots of choice around at the moment and spoilt for choice. Looking for advice on best regarding running and reliability between L reg 280Sl, L reg 320SL or various 300SL-24's. Can anyone advise me?

Thanks

SL 320 Straight-Six, would be my choice (mid93-mid98 ). Condition and FSH are the most important factors. The 24 engine had some issues with head gasket, but replacement gaskets seemed to be okay.

Make sure 'EVERYTHING' is in working order.

Best to avoid the 280's as they can seem a bit underpowered as although the SL is quite small it does weigh close to 2 tonnes.

Main difference between the early and late models is the engine management and injection system. Later models have Bosch LH Jetronic which is used on thousands of cars while earlier models have KE Jetronic which is used mainly on late 80's Mercedes the odd VW, a few rarities like the Ferrari Testarossa and for some reason the Escort RS Turbo!
Garages generally seem to have much more experience on the LH system as it is so common, also diagnostics are much improved on the later models.

As is always the case, go for the best car you can afford and don't be tempted by apparently cheap cars as in the majority of cases you will spend more on them in the end.

Good luck
