I had a problem with the dash brake associated lights coming on when almost at a stop. As advised I did the following.
I Changed the brake light switch and for 3-4 days the dash lights were all normal.
Yesterdat it was wet and when I came to drive home from work the BAS/ESP, ETS, ABS, and after about 1 second the EPC light also came on this was all before I started to drive the car away from the parking space.
All this is just as before I changed the brake light switch..
If I switch off and then re start the BAS/ESP, ETS, ABS lights come on and after driving 50 t0 60 yards they all go out.
The lights NEVER come on whilst driving or braking if the car is going over 5 to 6 MPH.
They only come on at the last instant of stopping or 1 milli second before a complete stop is reached.

Getting a little teed off.

You must measure the battery voltage for if it is low, say with a short circuit cell this would be what we call a starting blip. When driving the car would be running on the alternator and supply the 13.8 volts thats needed, when you come to a near stop, the alternator voltage will be on the min and the voltage too low to activate the circuits that fail

Measure the voltage after the car has been standing

Thanks for that guys.
I will book it in for a code reading next week at a non franchise garage in Inverurie but the owner worked for Wier Merc Dealers for 22 years and I have got his info from the Merc club mag.

I will keep you posted.
Thanks.

I had a new battery fitted about two months ago and it seems as sound as a pound.
What I have worked out is this lights on dash problem ONLY happens when the roads are WET or it is raining.
Today I drove over 280 miles with about 8 or 9 stops but the roads were bone dry and never a light was seen to come on.
I live north of Aberdeen and there is a lot of salt thrown on the roads.
The cars are all white with salt deposit.
I am thinking that like on my sons motorcycle the salt deposit when wet conducts electricity and this is enough to put on his AB light but when he washes the wheel sensor and surrounding area the lights go off.
They stay off till he rides in the wet again just like my ML 270.
This problem has only happened on my car since salt has been put on the roads August, September. and October were ok. The fault came to light
late on in November (SALT TIME) and wet roads.
In snow no problem whatsoever.
Your thaughts please.

Thanks.

As SAM above , get the codes read .. really with a fault like yours it should show up on the star diagnostic, and as with any electrical problem small glitches in unrelated areas can cause havoc.. What year/model is your car mike, some of the 03 on models were recalled for a faulty front sam..which caused similar problems to yours..

I think that I would clean the area's around the sensor wires, copper paste can leak and this is why TMD brought out the new copper free grease.

I would remove each front wheel and wash the surface area near the sensor wire, both on the caliper and where it joins the axle, with petrol or a degreasing agent

I do not think that this would show up on STAR

Dash Lights

I will try that as the garage I was going to take it to has a 5 to 6 day lead time and am sure it is something to do with the wet and salt.
Some of the modern electrics/electronics are so sensitive I sometimes wish that things could be as they were 20 years ago when you could fix most cars with the simplesr of tools and material, no computers just honest down to earth MECHANICAL ENGINEERS with a tool box.

Kindest Regards

Mike

The car is 2000/2001 ML 270 Cdi W163 Auto.

I was thinking of doing as Malcolm thought and do the pads at the same time and perhaps get the discs skimmed also so as to have everything as near 100% as possible, and hope and pray that the bl**dY lights stay well and truly OUT.

Thanks guys I will keep you all up to speed with this on going saga.

Regards
Mike

Check there's no water entering the passenger footwell and water is draining away correctly. I had similar problems with mine and moisture or even a little water botches the electrics.
