hi,i,m just about to have my mercedes e-200 taken to a local dealership to have my problem looked at...does anyone know what kind of cost i am looking at to have this sorted.
the key goes into the ignition but it does not release the wheel or make any contact.and it does not unlock/lock the car.
i,m worried that taking it to dealers,one always gets ripped off......but looks like that i have no choice as this problem can only be sorted by a dealer...(catch 22 situation}

Sorry I forgot to come back to your original thread, when the key will not turn it will require a new switch, If it is the metal key then you need a new barrel, if it is the plastic EIS then the complete switch. An indie with STAR can do it cheaper

You can buy the tumbler yourself and fit it,there are 2 types one has a plastic ring around it with a DAS coil the earlier ones do not have this.

They cost about £65 many people fit their own

Yes you can, you must order the barrel from MB, do take some ID and the log book with you

What car is this?

If it's a W124 with RCL locking with a black fob and a swing-out key then replacing the ignition lock barrel is as described by Television

The barrel costs around £65 and takes a few days to come from Germany. It's keyed to your keys & your car via the chassis number

That is if the only problem is the barrel. That's normally the case

Some of the ignition switches need new keys too. It depends on the part number of the switch.

I fitted one last week for a customer. Bill came to £450 inc

When the ignition switch is fitted some coding needs to be done

EIS problem on my E230 '97

BlackC55, I got problem with EIS on my E230. The both keys can open and lock the doors. but it won't connect with the engine sensor to start the engine. funny thing is the first key got the problem at 6 months ago, and then the back up key got the same problem just 2 days ago.

Then service guys diagnosed the keys and they said the keys are fine... and they said the problem is with the EIS, and I have to replace it.... and it might cost around USD 1,000 to import it to my country (Indonesia).

1st, I like to ask if there is any other way to repair this rather then to change it..

2nd, How I can be sure that the EIS must be replace it? We can't just trust the Service Guys / workshop from Mercedez in My country. I'll humiliate my own country if I tell more about it, but that is the condition...

Please Help, Thank You.... :(
