following on from exgrangers thread bout goin thru a amber traffic light................

I was in central Blackpool this afto stopped at a red light .......& this huge fire engine comes screamin up behind me with all it's deer dars going ect....so knowing I'm blockin the junction I pull forward to let him by ............I then get a tap on me driving window & told to pull round the corner by a bobby on a push bike .....(Yeah they do still exist)

I am infomed that he is giving me a ticket for "Failing to stop at a red light"

I protest my innocence using words such as GET F***ED yer havin a laugh & Are you blind!!!........At this point a traffic car pulls up & a Sgt jumps out I try again to protest my innocence & am told to "Shut yer F***ING gob you I'm talking to a fellow officer"

Anyhow.....the plod on a pedel bike leaves & am told to get into the back of the traffic car..........The Sgt turns to me & says " Sorry mate I saw what you did & I would have done the same, that PC is still wet behind the ears I had to shout at you so he would assume I was on HIS side .......On yer way & sorry for the inconvience he caused you .

Why am I telling you all this ???........ the bike plod has just rang me to APOLOGISE for his miss-understanding of the situation.

I am left thinking ..........What if that traffic Sgt HAD NOT bin there i would have bin left defending myself in court against a police officer with no witnesses to back up my story .............

The "official" line is that you sit at the lights and do nothing till they change. It's a very British situation - bad law that is allowed to stand

The trouble is, I guess, if you'd edged through and then someone had hit you it's you that technically would have been in the wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think you did the right thing (morally), its another case of the law being wrong - but a good case of at least one policeman having a bit of common sense, and another being a bit of a numpty.

Two bobbies in Blackpool. I wondered where all the extra resources had gone!

Sorry but what you did was illegal.

I know it sounds daft, but it is.

Had the same happen to me with a police car, and I didn’t go through the red light (which had a camera on it) suffice to say they weren’t happy but hey ho.

They actually CAN NOT force you to do something illegal.

I know it’s mad, and if it was an ambulance then I would get out the way. But imagine you went thought the lights and hit another car or cyclist and killed someone because you were more concerned with the emergency services. It would be you in jail regardless.

Not easy but make your choice, take your chance. :D

Hopefully if a cooper sees you they will not be like the guy on a push bike, twat……

Sorry, but quite frankly had you spoken to me like that your feet would not have touched the ground. Not only would I have 'booked' you for the traffic light incident I'd have had you for a breach of the peace as well.

Firstly I do agree with Tom, you can't talk like that to them, it just plays into their hands. You can't swear at them, and they CERTAINLY can't swear at you - not in this namby-pampy world we now live in. I always use the same pseudo-polite extremely patronising tone they use on you - works wonders! :)

However I can see how you could lose your temper, sometimes the filth can be unbelievable.

I have a pal who's got 3 points for "driving without consideration for other road users" or something similar. His crime? Flashing his lights at an oncoming car to let them know they'd forgot to turn their lights on. Brilliant! That'll learn him!

I've often wondered if the filth would ever try and do you for getting out of the way of an emergency vehicle - mounting the kerb etc. Now I know! At least the grown up one had a bit of common sense. He's probably been busted back down to plod for daring to use it!

I would not have commited a breach personally.

If charged with running the light. would have been surprised if it went to court but if it did I would plead guilty with mitigating circumstances.

Aye i understand where yer coming from but ....................there is no such a thing as "Mitigating circumstances" It's like speeding ....."Were you speeding Sir??" YES but....... The "YES" confirms you have committed the offence therefore your "Guilty as charged"

Like did you cross that white line on a red light ??........YES but ..........

NO DEFENCE.YOU JUST ADMITTED THE OFFENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither answer in this case is admissible in court therefore cannot be used by the prosecution. Reason? No 'caution' first!

Tom .............Let me get this right........I can (Could have) been "Booked" for a breach of the peace for saying to this numpty "Yer having a F***ing laugh"

BUT........I'm told to "Shut yer f***ing Gob you, i'm talking to a fellow officer" and I can do NOTHING about it seems to me there is a rule fer police Officers & a very different one fer Joe public.

Now I quite accept that you guys come across some real lowlifes & you asses every situation as you approach it When I first spoke to the officer he & I spoke quite calmly & intelligently it was HIS attitude that caused me to lose my temper He quite openly admitted that he had seen the Emergency vehicle trying to get past me but just would not listen to any reason.

You do know that you can charged for holding up an emergency vehicle? It seems that they would have had you eitherway.

Police Camera Action has some good footage of people being completly stupid, like stopping a transit on a blind bend.

I remember overtaking an ambulance, on an emergency, in the Caterham once...nothing ever came of that.

I have also witnessed a woman hold up an ambulance by driving at the same speed as the car on the nearside lane for a mile or so. Blue lights and noises made no difference. If it had been the police chasing a stolen car, it was a good move. If I had been the ambulance driver, I would have rammed her.

If slim boy is right and they can't force you to do anything illegal, even if they are in a hurry to start somebodies heart, you shouldn't even put your wheels onto the pavement to let them through.

If the Sgt hadn't come along I would have been putting in a complaint to the police complaints thing...you may still want to do this as you will get a phone call apologising and this will go on record so you can use this in the future.

Yes I said I would plead Guilty and I would expect to be found guilty.

I am not trying to avoid the verdict by stating the circumstances in which I commited the offence, just minimise the penalty.

Hooded Claw, if what you say is exactly what happened then we all quite rightly would feel aggrieved, but I do suspect slight 'embellishments' to the story (only my opinion of course). The fact is I wasn't there nor have I heard the other side of the story.
Admittedly there is bound to be the odd 'numpty' who becomes power-mad after donning Police uniform - there always has been and always will be. I'm sure this particular Blackpool Officer, if he survived his probationary period which this one certainly must have been on, and after shovelling up the cremated remains of some poor soul after a fire, laying out a primary school kid in the mortuary after a double decked bus has run over him/her then letting the kid's parents know, reviving a heart-attack victim in the shopping mall by CPR or some similar 'duties', he will start getting his priorities right.
As for your last paragraph, don't forget this Officer would also require a witness to back-up HIS version! Even a Police Officer requires corroboration of some kind and I very much doubt, in the circumstances he would have got that.
Anyway here's hoping your next encounter with the fuzz is to YOUR advantage (it DOES happen you know!)

My mother has the same thing from the opposite side of things.
She was stopped at the lights on the nearside with a polis transit minibus beside her at the lights.
The lights changed to green and she went to go through them, an ambulance came through from the other side of the polis van which she couldnt see due to their van (she said there was no siren sounding).
After she went through the lights the polis minibus pulled her over and 5 yes 5 officers got out and had a right go at her(she is a pensioner)" as in are you blind...thick etc as surely you must have seen the emergency vehicle etc".
They never even gave her the chance to explain she couldnt see due to their van in the road!!!
She said she has never been so humiliated in all her life for doing nothing wrong.
She took 2 of the officers numbers and reported them for abusive and threatening behaviour after taking advice from friends who are serving officers.
She recieved an apology a few weeks later and after some digging by a mate of mine who is a serving traffic cop it turns out that they were probationers coming back from training and thought it would be a laugh to dig up "the auld dear in her car"
I have respect for the police as an organisation and am completely respectful in all dealings with them, which has got me off from minor indiscretions on more than one occasion but as we all know there are bad apples in all walks of life.
Also officers deal with scum all day so mibbee they are used to adopting this manner in all dealings with the public!! Doesn't make it right though or an excuse .
As ma wee granny used to say" Treat others how you would like to be treated yourself ".;)

I have two friends wo are Polie and im afriad thats the case, lets just say we no longer see much of them, its sad but some people really do cahange for the worse when they join up. Like any job in an ideal workd you should be able to leave work related issues in the office when you arrive home, its not always possible especially for them.

Some of th stuff on Police Camera Action is so stupid im am surprised the police let them sowe it, Police officers can be a bit "silly" sometimes. :D

I had a good laugh at this. :) Well it is a joke is it not?

But then we all have to start somewhere; and I for one, would not be Policeman for all the Whisky in Scotland.
