hi i had a question my 1987 mercedes benz 300E ran into a telephone pole and the front end is messed up pretty bad not too bad but pretty bad. i have a couple of questions. on that year of a car where is the engine cuz if it is in the front of the car i am prettymuch screwed but if not i might have a chance. i would like to know if you could help me in telling me how much the damage would cost. i would need a new hood and a radiator and probably a water pump since you know the damage and type of car could you give me an estimate please. thank you very much.

Punk,

The engine on YOUR car is in the middle, underneath the seats.

It was originally at the front on W124's, but is now in the middle after you hit the pole !

some more help for you,

the radiator is that mass of twisted metal wrapped around what used to be the alternator, power steering pump and crankshaft pulley

the water pump will be nicely concealed behind the aforementioned mass of twisted metal and rubber.

The hood release probably won't work but as you obviously haven't used it yet you won't be missing it now

the headlamps - those glass things at the front of the car may or may not work but they will certainly be out of alignment. as the adjuster for these is under the hood I suggest that you use a large hammer to put them back in place.

Quick crash repairs can be achieved by attaching a very strong rope to the exact point of impact and to the telegraph pole you hit before reversing at exactly the same speed you were doing when you hit the pole in the first place.

The cost, well, it would be hard to estimate but I can safely say it will cost more than the price of a packet of cigarettes.

HTH
