Any help will be appreciated; I am new to both MB and Internet forums. I have recently purchased a 1979 450SEL 6.9 (the first owner was Alan Jones the F1 driver) and it is a fantastic car, if a bit heavy on fuel. I would like to get it back to good condition and any advice will be gratefully received. As far as I know the major issues are:
Rust particularly around the sun roof (the previous owner advised that I should not attempt to open the sun roof) there is also rust around the doorframes.
The suspension on the front passenger side is hard.
Both of the rear electric windows are very slow.
The air con does not work.
The central locking works occasionally.
Engine wise everything seems fine.
I have been to a couple of merc garages but they gave the impression that they do not know a great deal about the 6.9 as they are very rare and I would like to learn myself and restore to forma glories.
Thanks
Mark
