Remove seating if that is practical and dry out the area, spread paper toweling everywhere you can and check every few minutes, looking for the area that becomes wet first, blue paper toweling like the use in garages, changes colour to a darker shade of blue when wet (blue paper can stain seating/carpet if left wet for long periods, blue dye runs). You will also need some rain.

The area you describe is the lowest point of the car, so water will run there even if it's leaking at the front. Check out the sunroof as already advised, but also the bonnet spring cavities for blockages.

Common point of leaks on the W123 is the rear screen and sometimes the front screen.

You can sometimes temporarily fix it with some sealant, but the problem is cause by corrosion around the window frame beneath the rubber.

The only way to fix this, if it is the case is to remove the screen, fix the corroded area and properly replace the screen with new rubbers.
