We have purchased a one owner 1970 W114, from a deceased estate.  Lovely original motor car, with only 62,000 miles on it. A one owner car.

As leaded petrol is not longer available in Australia, we would like to run it on standard unleaded, which down here is 91 Octane.

Do not really want to run it on super unleaded, as it is about 10% dearer.

Can any one advise, with this fuel what should be the inition timing, and also what should be the plug setting, if I recall correctly, unleaded fuel requires a large plug gap.

Thanks

No replies. Shame you arn't visiting England. I have to 2.0 litre diesel engine deep in the back of the garage that will go anywhere, well eventually.

Hi Colin.

Long time no hear. Rule of thumb is to retard the ignition timing by 5degrees. Usually only the carb engines. But if you have pinking problems then injections engines as well.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Andy
