I have owned a variety of Merc's since the late 1960's and would have benefited from the excellent advice given by members of this forum, so I am hoping that someone would be able to shed some light on a recently developed fault on my 1997 C210 200E elegance estate.

On pressing the washer button on the stalk and the rear washer button:-

1) Windscreen wipers operate correctly, but no washers.

2) Washer pump motor will not run.

3) Washer motor runs correctly when energised with an external supply.

4) Voltage across plug is 4.9V, and the same to earth.

5) Fuse 5 in rear fuse box OK

6) Voltage across fuse 5 is correct. (radio works properly)

My guess is a partly broken wire, or a corroded plug somewhere, cannot find a wiring diagram for this model, so any idea's please.

There are so many possible causes.

A common one is the wiper stalk.

Thank you, yes, the thought had also entered my mind, but I have no clue how to get at it to check. Is there a site anywhere that would explain how to do this?

The power for the pump comes from the rear wiper motor,so if your pump is in the floor on the car its either a wire broken between the tail gate and the floor or the stalk, not sending.

Welcome Bob to the forum,,do a search a few day back as we had the same fault thread running for another car

Hi Malcolm, thank you for the welcolme, pity I had not found this site many years ago.

Sorry, I'm a little confused, my pump is located on the washer tank not on the floor of the car.

If the fault is in the stalk, surely the rear wiper/washer switch on the dash would still work?

I have searched the threads, but can find nothing relevant.

Are there no drawings for this model available on the internet?
