Please can any member advise me on a brakes problem with my 1985 sec 380coupe? The brakes are fine and pull up very well nice and straight but just when the car comes to almost a stop the pedal seems to jump back up a bit and shudders? I have new pads fitted and the pistons in thy calipers seem to move freely. Could the problem be related to the ABS system maybe a sensor with luck??? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks Chris:confused:

Sounds ABS related to me, as if the abs pump is kicking in as you come to a standstill for some reason.........

Take out the fuse that controls the abs system to disable it and see if the problem is still there, if it is, try cleaning up the wheel sensors.

I had a 420 SEC that did this after I had the disc changed. It was down to an upgrade needed to each of the front brakes. Some sort of cable or hose! Thought yours would of had it by know.

Hi Malcolm.
No the old brake pads were in good condition with no visible contamination.I am thinking that the drivers side callipper is sticking slightly???The car did pass its MOT today with Zero problems but this slight judder on the brake pedal when the car stops is bugging me?
kind regards chris

HI Tromppost.
Thanks for the reply. The car actually has always had this slight shudder since I have had it but I was a little concerned cause it had its MOT today which I am hapopy to say it passed with no problems at all. however now I am determined to get this slight shudder sorted.
Regards Chris

Hi again Panasonic.
Please can you tell me where to look for the ABS fuse? Is it likely to be a simple fuse or a relay?
Thanks Chris

I do not think its ABS related,, first I would clean the disc with spirit and the do a few very hard stops

sounds like abs to me, esp if the pedal kicks back, more like the control unit not getting a signal from one of the sensors, normall happens at parking speed/ and with slight steering imput. u can take fuse out of OVP relay, behind fire wall, centre of car in front of wipers? or test with meter to see if signal fails.

two leads go to the hub, one will go to the brake pads the other into the hub itself, thats the abs sensor,

you can get to them under the bonnet, on either side therwill be a large male/female aerial plug, this is the connector you need to test from, make sure you test the right end. :). the rear abs sensor connects under the rear seat but is a normal 2 pin job.

When an abs wheel sensor is on its way out it often starts off as an occassional vibration at the pedal just when coming to a stop. The abs light wont come on for this to happen . Can go on like this for long enough before it eventually fails (open circuit) and abs light comes on.
