Is it possible to incorrectly reassemble a CDI injector on an E220 with no other symptom of misassembly except that it won't rev over 3000 rpm? This is the main fault though I put more details below:

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?p=288957#post288957

Now I'm wondering if it could have been a missassembly when I installed new caps on 1 and 2 and reapplied the tops.

Else why has the car limited itself?

Could it be that something needs reprogramming or limiter is unwittingly on (can this be checked)? MAF isn't great but this fault only appeared upon restarting car which had been a. laid up with battery disconnected for a while. B. Injector seals replaced - running much better on that front anyway!
Any ideas chaps/chapesses?

Hello, sorry nobody has offered any help up to now!

I think you need to the engine fault code read, I is very hard to say without that to go on.
It may just need the codes clearing, but I would get it read to help you/us along.

Let us know ET

As Ellsy above some faults are very hard to work out, at least with the codes read you will have a good idea what the problem is

Thanks to y'all for your replies.

It was the AMS - code 101.

Then I changed the thermostat so that problem is solved,

'Cept the AMS is giving worse problems since being changed! Like being astranded in South London on a hot, stalled car, refusing to start - derspite the usual roadside checks - EVEN disconeccting AMS didn't work. Come back an hour l8 and lo and behold... she purrs like a pussycat on speed!
Only to have conked out on me again last night. I confess to trying to save a few bob - you guessed it - with a pattern 63 squid AMS. ... Now, does anyone know if it needs changing or can onboard comp be 'reprogrammed'?

Intermittent Stopping...

That problem of going, stopping, then going for a bit and stopping again sounds like the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

Others should be able to give you more info about testing / replacing although if you do a search on here, the info should be available somewhere.

Hope you get it sorted out!

Mine's a diesel - do they have CPS?

BTW - the car only cuts when warmed fully - then (so far) only in traffic so low ish rpm and accompanied by surging.

Then no starting for a good half hour - then starts as if there was never a problem?!?

I have just got a replacemnet MAF/AMS and will fedback after changing it and running the car 4 a while.

Put original Merc AMS in. After half hour drive she conked out again and sailed to a rest, just clearing a junction! Wouldn't restart till I waited 30 mins (time for a warming Turkish kebab!)

B4 I get a CPS, is there anything else to consider?
