my front suspension need new bushings left & right - lower arm. Can this be done as a diy project - is there a thread i can follow?

Also my remote central locking unit stopped working - battery was changed then worked for a week now will not function again - red ir light is still working - it is a flick key unit with one button and red & green lights on the mirror & driver side door handle. Again any ideas welcome - or should i visit my stealer? Thank you.

Replacing the bushes is not too difficult. You don't say which car you've got? Which ever way you will need to dismantle the suspension arm and remove it from the car. When you replace the bushes consider polyurethane bushes as they last around 5x longer and are not affected by oils etc as rubber bushes are. This helps when you install them as you can use copious amounts of grease and other lubricants. With rubber bushes only use rubber grease.

The old bushes will need to be pressed out or if stuck they can be burned out. You will need to press the new bushes in for which I use the fattest threaded rod and various sockets. A good wide opening (around 6"-8") vise will also help as an alternative if the threaded rod can't take the strain.

After you've put it back together (you'll find out how glib that statement is!) you will need to have the front suspension set up - camber, tracking and sometimes castor. My tyrefitter has a laser alignment machine that is ideal. After that has all been done you will be amazed at the difference and wondering how you managed to drive the car previously.

good luck
