help noise w124 300d

I am new to Mercedes and diesels in particular and have just bought a old w124 300D 1988 and people are telling me that the engine is faulty from big ends small ends and injector pumps failing i have already replaced the alternator and battery it needs a drivers side sill (rear jacking point rusted out)any idea of a supplier.
i have a couple of wave files of the engine noise which i could email or post if someone knows how i can do it

is this a money pit and i should just get rid of it
any help would be appreciated

Have it examined by a reliable indie (should be easy enough to find) so you know whats needed and will have a fair approximation of costs.
If its done for, and you have space , break it you should easily recoupe the cash spent.
If not A VIKING BURIAL !!!!! petrol and fireworks in the back seat
