Invest the 550 quid in something you need and leave the phone calls till you get out of the car.
After all, it'll be illegal to use the phone on the move in a couple of months, anyway.

I spend a lot of time in the car going to meetings, sort half my day out... so not answering my phone (which is hands free) is not an option

I've heard there is a software upgrade or something, does anyone else know about it??

thanks

Hi Emero,
Think your dealer is trying to scam you! By the way who is this dealer?

If it really is the car kit at fault -Get a new complete car kit and swap over the controller, they are only £89 from-

http://www.accessories-for-phones.co.uk/carkits.shtml

Think there are other sites that may be cheaper -do a google search on "CARK 91".

This same subject was discussed before on this forum -have a search on this site for "6310".

When I changed up from 6210 to 6310, there was no problems at all. When I got the phone at Orange, they said that some 6310s did not work with existing car kits, they required the phone to be "flashed" ??? I did not take the young lady up on that offer (even though I was tempted! :D ) because I did not have a problem with my 6310.

The new law, that covers mobile phone use in cars, starts on December 1st. As I understand, use of hands free kits are still allowed to be used, as long as the drivers concentration is not distracted from the road -so you must stop if its one of those really important calls.

Good luck
Orlando

Last bit!

Food for thought, the newest generation of Nokia phone all use the same generic car kit. the only bit to change is the cradle the phone fits into -aparently they weigh in at about £12 each.

Whether or not phone dealers pass on this gem of information in the future is another matter!

I find it laughable that Orange charge ?FROM £199? to fit a car kit.

All the Best

Oh, One of those! -That is really crappy! Sorry, I did not realise what you had in your Mercedes. Hopefully the information may be of some help to others.

If you are going to go down the replacement car kit, you may also be interested in this site-

http://shop.dashmount.co.uk/index.htm

They do custom fit, non damaging mounting plates for phone cradles, that is if you need one. They also do leather consoles, which look really good instead of a bit of angle iron sticking out of your dash!

Just had a thought, try speaking to one of the companies I have highlighted, they may know of a way round your problem, other than having to hold onto the 6210.

Good luck again, think may need it, or very deep pockets!

Hi

No you don't have to change everything all you need is a new CTEL ecu they are 184.50 there is no programming just fit it and it will work no more than 1/2 an hour labour.

this will alow your integrated system to work via the instrument cluster and multi function steering wheel, some dealers will tell you that you need the cradle as well at 80.00 plus fitting this is not required.

Hi piestore. I am in the same situation (6210  6310) I know I have asked the same in reply to another post, but do you know anything about upgrading existing systems to Universal Handy Interface (UHI) rather than the CTEL 'one horse' upgrade you mentioned?

It seems to be a popular topic. If anybody has UHI upgrade knowledge, a 'sticky' on the subject would be a great reference point.

Thanks for the info piestore. Much appreciated.

By Cluster I assume you mean the Comand system.

Any idea on the cost / DIY potential?
