i have a 190e that has just started acting up
it will only bump start
but once it starts it seems to run ok
there is a lot of what i think is oil in the coolant ,the coolant is just like thick chocolate milkshake
its not showed any signs of overheating on the temperature gauge
nor has there been any white smoke from the exhaust
i have virtually zero mechanical experience ,so any opinons would be great
ive been told the head gasket has gone
if this is correct what sort of money can i expect to pay to sort the problem out
im in south wales

looks like head gasket... but also- is your car auto? could be the oil cooler contained in the radiator.

Not really, about £275 for a 190E headgasket at an independent.

oil in coolant

.....I had exactly the same problem it was a problem with the oil cooler I can"t say what it was but it did"nt need a new cooler my car is a S280 so I don"t know if its the same as yours I think the biggest job they had was clearing the oil out of the water system good luck.

Hi Druck. I take my car to a brilliant guy called Andrew Mc Donald. He is just outside Abergavenny towards Brecon. He services my 1994 E280 and he has always done an excellent job. He really knows his Mercs. His phone no is 01873811555.
