I am starting to get disheartened with an oil leak on my CLS, its my wife's car and I am getting serious grief.... The car is a 2017, V6 diesel, with 50k miles on the clock. I started to notice some fine oil splatter on the underside rear of the bonnet on the right hand side above the turbo, and oil splattered around the turbo area and the car then went into limp mode. So far my mechanic has changed the PCV valve, and the big red turbo intake seal. I drove it last night 15 miles on the motorway and it went back into limp mode. I took the following/attached photos showing that oil is still appearing where it shouldn't. I am not a mechanic, nor am I mechanically minded. I just spoke to my mechanic and he said that there is no oil sitting in the V of the engine. Any advise please on where the oil is getting in, and any areas that we should look at next would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
John.

I think what your pointing to is the turbo charge pipe , there's a green oil ring (50) in the top end and a black o ring in the bottom end where it joins the resonator box. If they split you lose boost so that explains the limp mode . It would probably paint a nice oil mist around the area also.

Anyone changed the fuel filter recently. If not do it at the same time. I'd change my mechanic also tbh. Find a mercedes indy near you .

Welcome John. I'm not mechanically minded either but it sounds as though you’ve got your answer - and find a local indie that better understands Mercedes.

What he said.

Another fable of the Om642.

Has anyone has the charge pipe off. Its essential the seals are changed and the pipe seater correctly.
The seals like the orange turbo seals should be a service item - every 5 years by my experience.

The OM642 is a fine engine but has too much bolted on in silly places to make it a great engine (OM648)

Thanks a million gents for your advice I will change out the green oil ring and the black o ring and fuel filter, my mechanic works on lots of mercs etc., and lots of old and high end exotic stuff. Its hard to get a good brand specialist in Ireland. I also have a Z4 that had a steering problem, all the BMW specialists didn't have a clue, one even suggested topping up the steering fluid (its electric steering) lots of people proport to be specialists in Ireland but they are not in my experience. After a discussion yesterday it looks as if someone has been in this area before removing stuff snapped bolts etc. Would it be normal for some oil mist to be in the turbo charge pipe, is this a normal function.

My reply was a suggestion, not a definitive.good luck if your attempting the o rings yourself.

Couldn’t agree more with the comments above about the OM642 and replacing O ring seals especially on the charge pipe and any other seals in the EGR and turbo area in the hot vee of the engine
