Firstly Hi everyone my name is Alan I'm a newbie on the site...
Now to my problem I have a 52(2002) Merc C200 Kompressor and today out of the blue the SRS light came on and when switching the car on it's saying on the multi fuction dispay 1 fault Restraining System.
Really is there anyway of finding out whether it is a fault in one of the Airbags or if it is a fault with one of the Seatbelt Pre-tensioners? Am I going to have to have it put on the Diagnostics or is there any other way of finding out what the fault is?
I have also disconected the battery for the last 30 mins to see if the fault code will clear from the ECU itself without having to have the fault cleared or having to have it put on the diagnostics or is it a case that I am going to have to have it put on the diagnostics?
And also is there anywhere that does Airbags etc for the Mercedes 200C Kompressor except a Mercedes Dealer? And is there anyway to reset the service warning on the Multi Functon Display as I do all the services etc myself or even a tool I can buy like one of the small Fault Code readers?
Any and all help wil be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thanks In Advance...
Regards Alan.

Hi Alan, sorry that your post got missed, most SRS faults are with the connections under the passenger seat

The snag is it needs to go onto STAR to be turned off, any indie will check it for you for under £30 if you get the codes read out we can take it from there

Would the same apply to a 2000 X CLK Convertible? I have wiggled the yellow connector which now means that the SRS light goes out and then comes back on again almost immediately.
Thanks
Max

A 208 CLK yes and many other models too, take care when checking with the ignition on as faults can be stored, though faults on switchable items like seat belts will not always be

I have heard rumours that you can erase the faults by disconnecting the battery, or would that cause more problems than it solves?
Failing that It's a trip to the indie then, Thanks again Malcolm:cool:

Hi Malcolm thanks again for your reply! ;)
Sorry for the stupid question but what is star?
I had the AA out last night but the guy couldn't get the fault coavedes so I am going to need to have it put into my local mechanic to have it put on the diagnostics which he charges around £70 to do!!!
I am just going to go out and have a ook under the passenger seat so I'll let you know how I get on.
Again many thanks...
Alan

£70 for a STAR ead out is robbery and MB prices, most will do it for up to £25-£30

STAR or similar is the only means to erase the fault code and turn the lamp off as its a safety item

Thanks again Malcolm I think I will have a call around I take it I am just asking for a Tech 2 Diagnostics read out I am going to buy a Fault Code reader but am not sure of which one is best to get and wether I am worth while getting a OBD reader which I have been told not to waste my time with and after watching the guy from the AA last night I think I will be giving that one a miss!
I was going to have te fault fixed by my insurance but I owned a Jaguar S-Type before the Merc and it is still showing on the system for some reason so I have had to call the Insurance up and have the Jaguar took off and renew the Merc and the Mrs Jeep but they are saying I will not be able to have anything fixed like that for 3 weeks is it safe to drive the Merc for tose 3 weeks or will I need to go to an indie have the codes read and see what the fault is?
I had gave my brother the car for the night and his Mrs had threw the pass seat back if you understand what I mean do you think his could have caused the fault as it only came up when he got back from using it and he said that it went on as he passed a gritter I know that couldn't have caused the fault but could being rough with the pass seat have caused the SRS light to come on Malcolm?
I am about to phone around and price having the codes read electronics is not my forte but I have a fair bit of expereince with mechanics will tis be of any help?
Thanks Malcolm

Take care on this as the SRS is part of the MB special network and not seen in a standard code reader, as they only read engine faults.

Thanks Malcolm have you any advice on which Tech 2 reader I should get if not for my Merc then at least for the Astra Coupe and Grand Vitara if I can't get one that will work for the Merc.
Oh and I called my local garage that does my MOTs and spoke to the owner a friend of my Dads and he said he now has a Tech 2 reader in the garage now so he doesn't need to call the guy out which is what he had to do before!
So he said he would get the codes and see what's what and if I can't deal with it myself he'll give me the best price he can! :D
I'll let you know how I get on. 8)
By the way I had a look under the pass seat and couldn't any sign of any yellow connector or anything of that sort?

I do not think that the tech reader would be able to read SRS faults
