1. Squealing heater fan motor - I'm guessing a dry bearing, but how do I get to lubricate it??
2. Tailgate won't hold up, any thoughts ?? No not the long piece of wood !!
3. Do the headlight lenses unclip ? They look like they should with the two clips at the top, but the bottom isn't quite so obvious. Only the lens is chipped and the whole unit is full of condensation and I'd like to dry it out and seal it.
Thanks for any thoughts.

tailgate struts

you have to bite the bullet and get the MB ones from the dealer.£70 ish and a well fiddly job, but adequately documented here by quite a few hardy types who've done it.

Headlamps. yes, you can just change the glass, get it from GSF at about £30 the pair i think. Go along with the car or a headlamp to make sure you get the right one, as they make you sign a disclaimer saying you won't return it because it's wrong. Get a new seal at the same time. Fiddly, but do-able.

Thanks for all the info fellas. Down to me now I guess ! Thanks for the tip on eurocarparts and GSF. One irritation I'm find hard to live with is the total lack of get up 'n' go. This car replaces a 1600 Turbo Diesel Passat and I suppose I rather hoped it would be at least equal to or better performancewise than that ! I'm rather worried that joining motorways etc. could be potentially dangerous when they're busy. In fact losing momentum on a roundabout can be embarassing. I did a 350 mile round trip on Sunday involving M11 and significant bits of the M25 and she cruises well but thankfully not a huge amount of traffic when joining the motorways. Is it me ?? Do I need a new mindset.
