Sorry to ask but I’m looking for some live help with diagnosing and fixing an issue with a w177 A200. After what I’m sure was a flat battery which caused the initial problems the drivers display cluster still won’t initiate at any point. It went to the local garage who done a XENTRY diagnostic but didn’t reveal anything surprising. Now I have the car back with a fresh battery and a huge issue as I’m worried it’s going to need to go back via a recovery truck to the dealership for a very expensive repair if they can even find the fault.

Sorry if this isn’t allowed but I’m at my wits end.

My advice would be to find a good independent and get them to sort.

Without checking the obvious (fuses etc) it's going to need somebody with xentry and who knows how to do diagnosis and a self repair is going to be difficult with these .

Thank you for the advice. The independent that it was at has conceded on this one. Checked a few things apparently and done a software update but no joy. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I have the xentry report.

No problem.

The IC ECU is complaining of an open circuit between itself and the display module. As is the mbux comand module.

Power needs to be checked at the cluster wiring and other wiring checked for faults. If none found it's likely to be a faulty display

Thank you so much for looking at this. Is it possible that the main battery fault led to the aux battery discharging? Or something much simpler like a broken wire? This is something I’ve been wondering about because it almost feels like I can’t have been so unlucky to have two issues in one. The screen did go off and then came back on a few times over a week prior to the flat battery but since it was “intermittent” there wasn’t anything to take to the garage.

In all likely hood, a bad battery probably allowed voltage spikes to kill the screen, bits it's entirely possible it's unrelated and there is a broken wire somewhere. It should be second step for the garage to check for power at the module, when there are no communications with it

Thanks. Apparently the module under the seat was checked for damage/ water etc but everything “looked” correct. I’m not sure if they checked for power but I imagine given the report you interpreted they would have done the obvious so I think you are probably correct… Dead screen. Urgh. I’ll get it to Mercedes and see what happens.

Best to check they haven't just plugged computer and done update and then shrugged.

I have found more broken wires in random places on A classes than any other model

It couldn’t possibly be a fuse? If I were to check those as a last resort would it be one of the ones under the passenger carpet?

Felt I should come in and update after all… turns out the screen wash hose broke and leaked all over the control unit in the footwell and killed it.
