Hi all - newbie to this forum and hope to contribute if I can. I have a E240 Avantgarde, wife's got a 230SLK and we keep an old restored 350SL in the garage for summer use.

I have a simple question regarding the Avantgarde (having just bought it this week, so not totally familiar with it) I need to replace the air conditioning vents that are located in the back of the centre consol which feeds the rear seats, having had a quick look I guess that the consol needs to be lifted - are there any "hidden" screws that secure the consol - what's involved, does the gear lever (auto) surround need to be lifted as well and if so what secures it ?

Thanks in advance for any help offered

I would think that the liner in the storage bin lifts up and there will be a screw under there. I don't think the gearshift needs to come off as the plastic surround lifts out and the wooden panel should lift over.
However, if you're just replacing the vents, I wouldn't imagine the whole console needs to come out, I've never done it but I suspect it just unclips in some way, being a push fit onto the vent pipes behind.
