Help required with Vito 110CDi belt fitment

Hell all, I have been referred to this forum by a mate who tells me it's very good for technical info.

I have just been helping another mate with his Vito and am at a bit of a loss, his original ancillary drive belt has snapped and come away, he's bought a new one but when we've routed it round all the pulleys we can see there seems to be a large amount of slack still left. Does any anyone have a picture showing where it should go?

I had the same problem with my sprinter after the belt broke.

If you are certain you have the correct belt you are routing it wrong.

Mine although its a totally different engine needed to be folded in half to go between the tensioner wheel and fan wheel. So the belt sits on the tensioner wheel almost all the way around the wheel.

God this is hard to explain>>>> :?

Cheers for that, my next question, which may not be applicable on the sprinter, with its in-line engine. How the hell do you get at the tension to apply the tension?

Dead easy on the sprinter it uses a ram type adjuster. Simply undo the top mount (10mm), fit the belt and then compress the ram as best you can with a big lever and then re-fit the 10mm bolt.

Garages told me it would take fours hours to fit a belt and required the complete removal of the front of the van. I managed it in 20 minutes and didnt need to remove anything (aprts from the 10mm bolt;))
