Can anyone tell me how to dissengage from PARK.

The brake lights are all ok and working, so I guess its the solenoid.
My S320 (2001) is stuck in PARK in my driveway, and the MERC specialist cant come for a few days ! (isnt MOBILO wonderful !)
Does anyone know how to dissengage from PARK ? I took the plastic cover thing off at the base of the selector , can I tweak something with a screwdriver to release it from PARK ?

please help

thanks

There should be a small retractable flap by the gear selector that you can push a pen through & down to release tthe selector

The procedure is as described by G MAN, if you have the owners manual it is listed. The flap is by the 'D' on the LHS. I find that a pen is too large to fit, although a PDA stylus is the perfect size (if you have one).

Unfortunately the 2001 model doesnt have this flap.

2002 and onwards does. Surely there must be an option ?

thanks for your suggestion, any more ideas?

cheers

Just been reading an article where you cant move the gear shift. I do nor know if it covers your car, it does cover the 170,202,208, and 210

What happens here is that the electronic selector module does not receive a signal from the Brake light switch= replace brake switch.

Please check with MB if this applies to your car. It could also be that no DTC stored in the EWM.

Thanks Malcolm, I have the new brake light switch and just about to replace it
What does no DTC stored in the EWM mean?

I am technically challenged so excuse my ignorance!

thanks

The DTC means" Diagnostic trouble codes " I dreaded that you would ask what EWM means, I have not got a clue other than E = electronic and M = mapping or memory.

All answer on a post card please, and the first correct one opened will get an Orange for Xmas. No rude ones on this respectible forum

I will find out.

Thanks for all your help folks.

Unfortunately it was the cable between the brake pedal and the gear selector solenoid release. Mechanical , not electrical.
The local MB guys MERCEDES OF AYR sent there own technician out to my house and diagnosed the fault, which says a lot for them ***** 5 stars from me.

The bottom line is my pride and joy was recovered by the local recovery "experts". A bit humiliating watching her being manhandled by all those dirty hands, and dragged onto the vehicle!!

Just as an aside the recovery guys had just recovered a brand new 5 series BMW that was STUCK IN CRUISE CONTROL at 75mph . The poor guy could do nothing, not even switch her off, and took a turn into a field rather than negotiate a roundabout at 75 !!
Some thing to do with too much oil or something which causes the cruise to lock up !!

A bottle of wine for me tonight.

Are you saying they dragged your car in park onto a flat bed truck? Or did they lift the rear wheels?

Sort of dragged, they put dolly board wheel things on each back wheel and manhandled anything they could grab/push. It was absolutely chucking it down too, and it was all I could do to watch them !
