Some confusion has arisen. Both cars are 170 (mark one if you like) slk's, but one is pre facelift, and one post facelift. The early car has a push release with a key hole to the right side of the bootlid. This is linked by a twist bar to the latch, and the afore mentioned microswitch. The facelift car has the boot release under the lifting plinth, but again a microswitch is present, and causes an similar fault.
