I'm fitting a towbar to my 1996 C-class Elegance C200. I do not think it has a bulb failure warning system.
Can I wire the towbar electrics myself using the old 'scotchlok' method - or will I damage the electrical system?

Also - signature are fixing the head gasket and the diff seals, but not the steering idler arm - Is this a simple job for an amateur mechanic like myself? I have all the balljoint splitters and tools if I need them.

Help - Towbar Wiring.

Hi Stewart

The steering idler bush replacment is straight forward enough. No proffesional uses scotch locks these days. U need to solder the conections. So water cannot cause problems at a later date.

Your vehicle does have bulb warning on it. But not on all the systems which the 124 did.

Help - Towbar Wiring.

I thought I could cause problems if I tapped into the wiring to connect the trailer lights? Something to do with the circuit not being happy about the extra loading of the trailer lights?
But promise to dig the soldering iron out!
