help valuing 28K mile 2000 SLK200

I’m trying to help my elderly neighbour sell his 2000 SLK200. It’s a lovely car but at 89 he realises it’s time to stop driving. As best I can tell it’s a 2 owner car that he has owned for 17 years. Mileage at the last MOT in Jan was 28,500. It looks to have been garaged all its life and during his ownership has been serviced by Around the Benz in Arundel W Sussex. Colour is silver and it’s an automatic. I’m told everything works and last service cost £1500 due to needing parts from Germany.

Any input on pricing gratefully received. He’s not looking to give it away but also is under no illusions that it’s worth silly money.

Depends very much on condition, any serious rust and it’s worth little more than scrap value unfortunately. Have a look at autotrader for examples to compare against.

Worth sticking pics up. I'd certainly be interested if the price was reasonable.
As a summer day toy, would be ok.
Not worth a great deal these days, but nice ones are not easy to find.

Would a 2000 be a 170 (ungalvanised and thus prone to rust) or an early 171 (Galvanised)? However,an SLK200 is unlikely to be worth a lot, it's a low performance 2 seater cab often seen as a girly hairdressers car, thus valued in the (very) low thousands.

2000 would be the facelift, bit proned to rust. However if garaged can survive well.
I sold a 2003 200 manual last summer for 900 with 87k in very tidy condition.

A few things work mentioning - looks like 4 tyres fitted v recently.
Wheels not kerbed but loads of lacquer lifting
no AC, heated seats or air scarf
some of the soft touch plastic has gone sticky from age
no signs of any rust and from what I can see looks tidy underneath
garage floor under the car is dry and spot free
top goes up and down nicely except when it clonks fascinated and distracted idiots in the head :oops:

This will be a R170, the R171 didn't come out until 2003.

Looks like a very nice car and a credit to its current owner. My neighbour is 92 and is still driving and from whar I can see from his perfect damage free car, very competently! Such a shame your neighbour has decided the time has come.

Just as an example I recently found four sub-20k mileage SLK’s for sale, 1x200, 2x200 Kompressors and 1x320. All between 2000 and 2003 and all between £7.5k and £8k. All ‘mint’, all excellent history and paperwork trails. Two are on web with ‘Stone Cold Classics’ (I almost bought their silver one and the turquoise one was very nice too)
