Hi,
I got the rear brake pads replaced on my W210 about 6 months ago, and it has now developed a squeal at the back brakes that only happens when reversing, and is especially loud when starting from cold. It squeals more quietly when driven a few miles, again only when being reversed. I can't understand why reversing is different, but I'm no expert on brakes. The noise is so loud that you can hear it 300 yards away when cold.

Anyone got any idea what the cure could be, hopefully other than change the pads again as they've only covered 3,500miles.

Thanks!
John

Remove the pads and make sure the anti squeal shims are there clean pads and apply copper grease between pads and shims make sure the anti rattle shims are also fitted at the brake pins.
But it could be your handbrake shoes that is causing the squeal you will have to remove the brake callipers and brake discs to check the handbrake shoes hope this helps

Hi,
Cheap quality pads have metal particals in them that can squeal just as much as glazed disecs.

Use Textar pads and skim the discs if "mirror" shiny.

Also as another member said, shims, grease back of pads and slides and if necessary, chamfer all sides of the pads material.

Good luck,
Warren :D
