Evening All,

My Brother in law has a 1999 Mk 4 golf. He asked for my help today as a brake light was not working on the NS. No problem I said, and changed the bulb. Problem is that it now blows the fuse, and continues to do so until I remove the bulb.

Have tried a couple of the same bulb, but I now have 5/6 blown fuses.

CAn see nothing obviously wrong with the cluster.

Any thoughts welcome...

Thanks in advance

This does not add up Richard, the only thing that could blow the fuse is if the bulb is shorting out the live side when it is in, the soldered part is the bit that makes the contact, if the bulb is sitting too far in, then the base of the lamp could be shorting it out

Is the bulb single contact stop or double contact stop/tail. May sound daft but i have found that some folks have put single contact into double contact socket even though the double contact is offset peg. If you keep blowing fuses then one of your contacts is going directly to earth, so as Malcolm suggests check your bulb holder.

i had the same problem malcom suggested but with my almera. the problem ended up being that a dodgy batch of bulbs had been sent out and the sloder contacts were too small and the end of the bulb was shorting out.
