I am trying to get an age related plate for my 1972 W115 220 which I brought over from Germany. She's in pretty good shape, but I think the Q-Plate which has been assigned is a bit of an embarassment to her...

I was initially told by the DVLA that I should get a proof of build date letter from MB-UK which I have done. Now the DVLA have rejected my application on the grounds I dont have proof of age for the diff, engine and gearbox...

I have searched all over the internet for some information on this, but can only find info on de-ciphering VIN and chassis numbers, not engine/diff numbers... ...Can anyone help me out?

I know I can go to the MB Classic centre and get a build certificate, but this only lists the original engine, gearbox, and diff numbers for the VIN/Chassis. This is no good to me (and would be a waste of £70+ which could be spent on other things) if the engine, diff or gearbox has been swapped at anytime (which I think is fairly likely on a car of this age)

Thanks in advance for your help

Ben

Hi

I don't think it would be unreasonable for your vehicle to still have the original components fitted to it.

I would get in touch with MB. Get the engine number & g\box no etc & compare it to your vehicle. They would difinately have the details on their computor. Probably Germany if the cars been imported.

Then get your cirtificate.
