help with ignition keys

i have just bought a 1996 w210 e230 which came with 2 keys,one is in the shape of a match box which i was told is the master key,the other is flat and the shape of a credit card,this one i am told is for resetting the system in the case of a fault develloping,......my question is ..can i use this key to open the doors and start the car the same as i do with the master key,......can i use this key if i was to loose the other one,...this wasnt made clear to me when i bought thr car,..please excuse my ignorance as i want to be absolutly certain and i dont want to mess things up as the car is running very well ,...i also want to know if the thing is working or not,..thanks

sorry for the delay in the reply malcolm,had to dash out,..yes there is a key which slots in to the end and pulls out,there is only one button and underneath is written,infrared card,spare key,.......the card itself is 2 to 3 millimetres thick and holds 2 batteries ,..hope this helps
