Good evening... I’m wondering if anyone can help me...... I am a complete and utter idiot...... I recently disconnected my battery ... don’t ask me why but I put my key in the ignition...... like a fool I realised nothing was going to happen whilst the battery was disconnected..... I reconnected the battery...... which has obviously caused a surge... I’ve checked the obvious fuses but can’t find any that are blown.... I’ve read about a “pre fuse box” could this be the problem? And if so any ideas of how much to repair/ replace?
Thank you for your time

Is it key less start ?? if it is then can you go to ignition on at all or not? If you can but the car is not reacting when you push the starter button, then you can have a look to a fuses. Check fuses/relays on the boot :)
Hope that will help.

Try banging the steering wheel up and down whilst putting the key in and out. If it comes to life, steering lock fault.

I’ve visually checked fuses all seem fine... how would I know if a relay is faulty?

For me it is easy to check them, but it is difficult ti explain how to do it ..
You can try to swap them whit other ones.
Any way, can you reach the steering lock module. Disconnect and reconnect the socket(no need to disconnect the battery).
Do not use a hammer you can get the thinks worse :)

You may have a damaged ignition switch, this happens sometimes when the battery is re-connected with the key in the ignition, I try to avoid it.

Have you tried disconnecting battery for 10+ minutes then reconnecting again?

Did you found something?
Can you take ignition barrel out and give to some specialist to have look it. May some pin need to be re soldering. That also is possible, because my friend had this problem whit his G class 11 plate. .

A friend of mine (electrician) has tested every fuse and relay.... all ok... another friend has a diagnostic scanner which will try tomorrow. But I think it’s going to be the pre fuse box. I shall keep you all informed.... thank you again for all your input it’s most appreciated
