Please remember that the turbo / inlet oil seal is only an issue on the V6 Diesels..
On inline engines its not really important..
Some indys are now doing the very sensible procedure of replacing the oil seal every other service..
In fact if you get it into your mind-set to have it done when the air filters are done then all will be well.
Air filter housings have to be removed to get at the oil seal and so it makes sense..

Seal has come down in price now, less than a tenner......

Looks good Simon and new centre caps are perfect for that finish.

Thank you Nikhil..
Centre caps were thought of at the same time by you and I..
You suggested them on here and I had already ordered them..:D

Great minds . . .

Thanks for that Colin..
I will order a box full !! :D

Seriously mate I think you will agree its not such a major issue to change them say every 30k

I added a thin bead of Hylomar blue to mine so that it really is well and truly oil proof. I like the Hylomar because it has the consistency of honey and you don't wipe it away with a tight fitting oil seal..
http://www.hylomar.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=62&Itemid=70

I then squiggled it into the join between the oil seal and the inlet track to "bond" into place..
As you know I also replaced the crank case breather and oil seal..
I reckon its good for 30k now.

Sorry not related, but just seeing your thread title once again reminded me of a little ditty a mate once had on his toilet wall. (loo laughs ) :)

"Here I sit - broken hearted "

"spent a penny - ### #### ###### "

Just had to mention that. ;)

Used to have a C63...
I would like to be suitably cheeky, if I may S.Speed, and extend this thread a touch.

My dealer have "OK'd" my wheel refurb and the chap says he'll show me a colour chart of what's available in terms of colour change.

So, my question...

I like the effect on Simon's alloys, but realistically I suspect Merc will only do a 1-colour deal, not blended (and it won't be powder-coated).

I don't dislike the standard look, but should I take the opportunity to do something a little different perhaps? I don't want to do Gloss Black (I'm not into pharmaceutical sales...), but leaning towards a very light 'smoked' finish, just a shade or two darker.

As ever, thoughts gratefully received.

As mentioned previously in this thread mercedes do a titanium finish which is light. The person should have that.

Note though dealers just get the front face refurbed (they dont remove the tyre they just break the bead to slide the tyre down) which is why it will be painted and not a full refurb and powder coated. So changing the front face to titanium will be okay but the rest of the alloy covered by the tyre will be silver.

I believe you're right NPUK - but they're doing it as part of rectification after my purchase, so I can't argue too much.

If I'm back in the same boat in 12 months time, then I may well look at a proper refurb like Simon's.
